Freedom comes in many forms. Being around the “dieting world” as a consumer and as a health coach, for a very long time, I’ve been privy to many changes and trials and triumphs in my food lifestyle.
I’ve tried “intuitive eating” being vegan, vegetarian, plant-based, count calories, don’t count calories, weigh and measure, throw caution to the wind and eat and trust myself. Well, after 40 years of working it out, reading and researching, counseling and being the counselor, I can tell you from my many years of educated experience that sugar and flour “for me” is not a substance I can have on my tongue or in my body... like a true drug addict, it doesn’t stop at one, EVER! From no matter the mindset I’ve approached my eating habits... an addict can NEVER take one more hit... why would they want to? Food that God created is so beautiful and satisfying. Why must we think that to have limits is somehow restrictive... it’s a beautiful thang to have boundaries. It makes creative people that much more inventive when they have parameters. I am living proof on this journey that once I start down the path of “moderation” with the thought of just “1 that’s all” I am on my way to a very dark path.
Freedom looks different for everyone. For me, it is staying clear of trigger foods that mess with my brain function. And as health coaches we know how the brain and gut work together for our greater health.
Today, I am grateful to @brightlineeating and the science behind their words and the many inspirational people I’ve been following who have walked this path before with this freeing lifestyle. There is a lot we can learn from kids. One is to have confidence and love for who you are. I hope everyone (myself included) can be as confident as this little girl and not care what others think of you. I pray that she doesn’t lose this as she grows older. She went through a stage of wearing swim goggles and swim shoes everywhere she went. I’ve been doing @msrachelhollis #last90dayschallenge for the last bit of the year and I have to say that when you wake up with an attitude of trying to be the best YOU possible, things change.
Don’t do it for anyone else, you’re only in competition with yourself and any forward momentum is progress. Let’s try to not be so darn hard on ourselves and see our progress for what it really is... progress!
Who you choose to spend your time with and allow to speak in to your life has a huge impact on the person you become and the choices you make. Surround yourself with people that make you want to be the best version of yourself and that cheerlead you as you pursue your goals. If you dare to pursue change or growth in any area of your life, there will always be people that don’t get it. Their negativity is about them, not about you. Sometimes just a simple act of expression is enough... it’s hard to let others know how you feel... mostly on the days when you feel disconnected. So a sometimes a simple gesture can make all the difference. thanks for leaving this, it made my day!
Why is it some people move faster than others?
Some will meet and get married in less than a year.
And others will spend their entire life searching for that perfect someone.
Some will get pregnant first try.
And some will try for 10 years without success.
Some people will create a business and have early success.
Some will be in business for 10 years still waiting for success.
Some people will get that promotion on the first try.
And others will try three times without success.
It took me seven years to ask Andrea to marry me.
It took me a 3 years to have real success in my business while I watched others soar much quicker.
I waited 11 years to promote to Captain on the fire department, while others did it in 7.
I have to constantly remind myself this:
Don’t be afraid of moving too slow, be afraid only of standing still.
That’s my transparency for the day. What about you?

Today, I want you to think about “why” you do the things you do or don’t do in life. Not just why you do the obvious things like go to work, get dressed or take a shower. Peel back the layers of your “whys.” Why do you exercise? Why do you attend church? Why do you allow your mind to tell you negative things about yourself? Why do you choose to spend time with only certain people? Write them down and spend some time today to meditate on the true “whys” in your life. You will be surprised how much your life is influenced by others and not solely by your own choices. Live life the way YOU choose to, trust and believe in your WHY, and never feel obligated to have the approval of others. You don’t need their validation to decide how to live YOUR life. It’s Friday again....another week to reflect upon & learn from!
I have done 3 training sessions this week with my friends Ali, Ben & Rich who all have different styles of coaching but no less fun and challenging
After talking to a lot of my friends recently I am starting to realise how much pressure I put on myself; especially with my training to work hard, improve but when this is slow I get frustrated & annoyed with myself which leads to unnecessary stress •
This is something I am going to try and address over the coming weeks & months. I am going to go back to basics and remember to enjoy it for all the good things that fitness brings into my life
Remember to go at your own pace🐢 Everyone lives their lives differently, including people with Hypermobility. 🐢If that means we achieve things slowly, or in an adapted way, so be it.🐢 Aim for progress instead of perfection. 🐢Enjoy the process of doing something and celebrate the progress you’ve made.🐢 Taking breaks and resting can be an achievement too!🐢 Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that we don’t have to do what everyone else is doing.🐢 As long as we’re doing something that we value, then we are achieving something.🐢 #actifypt#wellness#goals#youdoyou#hypermobility
My entire life I knew what I NEEDED in my life and that was never another person. I needed to fuel my passion and strive to be the best I could be. Doing what I love everyday is what I NEED and honestly, I don’t believe anyone should ever need another person to feel strong and empowered and happy! Everyone should pursue a career or hobby that fuels their passion every single day, that makes them happy and fulfilled! That makes WANTING another person even more special! Self care, self love, self improvement & awareness is often considered selfish?!? This makes me think about...
1) why it’s ‘Selfish’ to make sure we are the best version of ourselves we can be?
2) but actually made me think about why being selfish is thought of as being so negative!?! It’s something we should celebrate! It’s turned negative by people wishing they let themselves be a bit more considerate about themselves and what they need/ want in their lives!!
I believe everyone should let themselves be a little be ‘selfish’ occasionally!
Considering what we need, want, love & enjoy, and then acting on it (I.e self care) which can facilitate our happiness, isn’t really selfish, as this directly affects everyone around us too...
Increasing happiness means less stress, worrying and negativity in our lives. Our overall well-being, attitudes and zest for life becomes more positive and a healthier, happier YOU follows!
SELFISH- this word is perceived with such a negative attitude that so many of us are scared to be judged by others around us and on social media, we end up neglecting our thoughts, feelings and ambitions!
Assuming the opposite of selfish is being self-LESS, then keep me in the selfish bracket! As the word says, think of yourself LESS (for who’s benefits ey? Oh yeah probably to allow someone’s selfishness grow- this is the negative kind of selfishness that is unhealthy?!?) - I’ll ponder this more another day! •
I want to encourage a little bit of YOU into every day, to be happy when we can be so we can live our best possible life for YOU and for those around you!
Take responsibility for your own wellbeing (no-one will, neither should they!) we owe it to ourselves and yes get selfish! - just a little bit.
I’m realising this more and more, I feel hateful vibes off people and I have to remind myself - do they matter? does their opinion count? Just focus on the people that love and support you #youdoyou#allthehatersreadyourpostsanyway
There is something about real, raw and unfiltered posts that I’m really relating to at the moment.
These people who put themselves out there on social media showing all forms of vulnerability and emotion in a highly curated, photoshopped, fake world.
They show a level of confidence and mental strength that I aspire to.
I haven’t posted a photo in my bikini in over 12 months. And the truth is I wasn’t ready to.
I wasn’t ready to say “Hey, look at me. Here I am in all my glory”
But after 12 months of working on my mindset, surrounding myself with the right people and being kind to my mental health I can finally say “Hey, look at me. Here I am in all my glory” and honestly could not care less about peoples opinions of me.
This is my version of real, raw and unfiltered.
And I’m finally ready to share more of me. The real me. The raw me.
If you can’t relate I wish you good luck and don’t let the ‘unfollow’ button kick you on the way out.

If I can make just one person change their mindset to embrace the skin they’re in it will be worth my vulnerability.
