Yesterday, Wake County Commissioners had a works session where they had a very one sided presentation from Wake Stone proposing to turn the Odd Fellows Tract, an area next to #umsteadstatepark known to be a common #biking and boy scout #camping area, into a hole for a quarry. This is a concern not just on how public recreational area is being affected, but the fact that this quarry does not get groundwater, but storm water to fill the hole means that the quarry would ultimately pollute the region and even affects the water quality and the plant life IN Umstead State Park!!!
The #umsteadcoalition#triangleoffroadcyclists and #Sierraclub will not stand for this. We packed the room yesterday wearing green. Even if we were not allowed to give public opinion during the works session, they see us. They have no choice but to see us. I was glad that the chairman gave Dr. Jean Spooner a chance to speak and show the commissioners just how many people DO NOT want this quarry. @umstead_coalition @torc_nc @sierraclub #Environmentalism#cleanwater#rduforest#wakecounty#raleigh
