I did this at the beginning of summer and am so glad I did!
I used two planters we had that were not in use and filled them up 3/4 of the way with sand (to weigh them down) and placed them on the corners of our deck (filling them the rest of the way with bird/squirrel food); then I found that glass canister with the lid and metal cooking spoon at #goodwill , for next to nothing.
I super-glued the lid to the side of the canister to make a feeder; super-glued the spoon to the under side of the canister to make a little seat for our animal friends; and strapped the whole thing to our deck! Filling the lid with bird/squirrel food, and the inside with unsalted, whole peanuts. It doesn't look pretty, lol, but I'm not a Pinterest Mom 😘
Now it's part of our daily routine! Every morning I take our 17.5 month old son out and we feed his bird and squirrel friends. Then we come inside and eat breakfast at the table, watching them eat; and he LOVES it! Since we don't do TV or any other screen time, this is our outside form of entertainment 😂 And we get to see so many squirrels and so many different types of birds!
