BEFORE AND AFTER: this garden is just about 18 months old and, apart from occasional deep watering in its first summer, has been more or less left to its own devices. Two springs of abundant flower and growth later, it was ready for some TLC.
I always smile comparing the timing of these tasks; in northern Europe this would be a spring job, making way for the new year of growth after the winter sleep. Here it's the other way around, the summer siesta is when plants go dormant and we can enjoy the visual interest of seedheads and dried structures. .
Whatever the timing, I follow the philosophy of embracing the natural life cycle and all changing forms of our plants. Work with nature, not against her, and both your back and your wallet will thank you! .
(STAY TUNED for some photos of the seedheads, they really do reward closer inspection!)
What's your go-to afternoon snack? Share yours below.
For the longest time mine was apples. They're juicy, crunchy and satisfying, but I could never figure out why I was hungry an hour after eating them!
When choosing a snack, having protein as the base is ideal. Eating an apple might be delicious, but since it's made of carbohydrates, which break down into simple sugar, your body can break it down pretty quickly if there's nothing else around!
If apples are your ideal snack, even few almonds will help you stay fuller longer.
If you're open to new snacks, try setting the intention of finding a protein to anchor your snack. Soft-boiled eggs, portuguese sardines, even a simple hummus or a high quality protein powder. Trust me - you'll notice a difference if you're usual snack is primarily carb-based!
If you find yourself hitting that 3pm crash on a regular basis, check to see what you're using as your anchor. Protein or carbs?
Day 2. Today a big part of my movement and meditation was centered around intent. Planting seeds in the garden of my mind. Planting those thoughts, feelings, perspectives that I want to see growing, the ones that really benefit me, the ones that will help me blossom. It is necessary to tend to our thoughts just like we tend to our gardens. Where attention goes, energy flows. May my garden be the best place to be!
I need to learn how to work faster and not spend more than 30 minutes on these daily creative plays. As a creator, I am all about detail and I like to take time to make things “perfect”. To make something look good in 30 minutes is a real challenge! 👩🎨 #AwakenToCreate
