I’m still sending boxes with an Autumn posy, but do let me know if you would like things a bit more Christmassy, I’m holding off as I want them to stay nice for Christmas Day! It’s my first time using glycerin on Pine, does anyone else have any experience? ⠀⠀
This is Ivy for friendship. In Celtic tradition ivy was thought to provide protection from evil when growing on or near a dwelling, however misfortune would strike should it fall down or die. It was believed by the Druids to be incredibly powerful, due to its evergreen nature & ability to thrive in the harshest environments. It was used at weddings, intertwined with holly to symbolise fertility & good luck & at Yule-tide to bring peace to the household. #thehollyandtheivy .
Listen closely...the flowers are talking.
Floriography was popular during the Renaissance and in Victorian times. Depending on the flowers included in the bouquets, you could communicate passion, love, or contempt and corruption.
You can have your students analyze characterization through the secrets language of flowers. I’ve created a resource that features flower charts, a flower vase template, lesson plan with tips, suggestions, and extensions. I’ve even included a full color sample. This is a one-of-kind resource. BTW the students’ finished work will make a gorgeous wall display.

Remember when it was Summer? 🌸 Attempting to BLOOM despite the cold - perfect timing with todays New Moon and just after Samhain (the Celtic New Year celebration that modern Halloween celebrations originated from) ✨ Also Diwali - the Festival Of Light - a celebration of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance which coincides with the beginning of the Hindu New Year ✨
Pictured: Echinacea found while exploring a friends Garden back when it was sunny - associated with Scorpio and named from the Ancient Greek 'echinus' for its spikes 🌸 Echinacea is often used to try and ward off Colds and is associated with Strength and Health in Floriography (The Language of Flowers) 🌸🌿
The Queer Language of Flowers is available for sale on Etsy! Read more about @robin_elan’s and my new zine, a flower dictionary which covers botany, queer history and love, on the blog (link in profile). You can also get a copy at @euzinefest this weekend through our printer @paperpresspunch. 💚💜💐🌈

One has short hair and is wearing a jacket and knee breeches; the other is wearing a jacket, trousers and green T-strap heels. The background features a floral wallpaper and sunflowers in a vase. When can I start to get fully Christmassy?! I’m finding it hard to resist! (Note the sneaky bit of pine...) I had no idea that thistle would be as popular as it is when I made it... And so loved in the US! If you are waiting we just re-stocked the shop, with more being added next week. Thistle has long been the floral emblem of Scotland, an association folklore has it, that was forged by the invading viking hordes in the 11th century. Upon landing on a beach covered in the thorny plant, their cries of pain awoke the Scottish locals who were able to repel the invaders. Thistles appeared on coins minted in 1470 during the reign of James III, & by early in the sixteenth century had become a symbol of the Scottish royal family. Thistle represents endurance. #botanicalfolklore
🇬🇧No wonder why #sage in #latin is called #salvere , what literally means "to save" or "to heal". It is full of #essentialoils and other wonderful substances that help to support your #health
#FlowerandFable is a marvellous #botanical brand created with love by Karen. Her passion for #plants and #herbs led her to design unique pieces of #jewellery to preserve and pass on the power of flowers and other plants. Each #charm in Karen's #workshop has a meaning according to #floriography . Sage, for instance, is supposed to keep you healthy. Such a wonderful idea, don't you think?
Sunday’s are for saying thanks.
Like, I’m thankful and grateful for this beautiful little baby, who one week ago today came into the world and out of my belly.
I’m grateful for my husband, the best support, the best partner, I could ever want for.
I’m grateful for all the love and support of our family and friends; thank you for offering a hand, sending your love and checking in.
And I’m grateful for @nptafoya, from whom I stole the idea of taking a yearly growth picture in a spot we love. 😉 💙
In this photo, Bohème the Baby Bump was 38 weeks. Next year I’ll come back to the Dahlia garden with a one year old Bohème Lux. 💜
Dahlias mean “gratitude” in the language of flowers.
A flower shop at this time of year... I feel the wave of grief and loss that sits on your shoulders, weighing you down. I see how the flowers pull you back up.
You look and ask for spring Irises but know it is not that season, not that time. I see your thoughts run away with you down memory lane. I see how the flowers call out 'without winter there can be no spring'. I know you hear it as I watch you look up, like you hear something but think you are going a little 'mad'.
I feel your whispers of and to lost ones, the voices of all you hate and love and the intense internal monologues. I hear you ask 'to be or not to be'. I feel you ask 'am I more dark then light'. I feel you thinking about death and catching the seed heads and not knowing why but suddenly you are thinking 'What is Death'. What will I be when I die?
I watch you wrap yourself in the textures of nature . I watch you creating shapes to tell stories with flowers. I feel that you crave dialogue and deep connection and without words flowers calm and ease you I watch how when you come in you breathe cold harsh air into spaces inside you and that I hear your breathe soften and in not much time at all I feel you are warmer, gentler, and softer with yourself.
Just look at the pretty scenes that @rustvintage x @floriography_flowers can whip up like it's nobodys biz. These two, they are the real deal guys! All the way from the depths of their soul... Love them, their heart and their art.

Happy November! Today was my due date, but instead of being in labor today we got to take our five day old for a little stroll through the sunny Mission district of San Francisco.
See how I coordinated her age (in days) to the number of violet sugar cookies like a kids counting book? 😆
Violets, as I’ve mentioned, mean “you occupy my thoughts” in the language of flowers.
I’ve associated them with Bohème so much during my pregnancy that I think they’ll always make me think of her.
Maybe they’ll become one of her favorite flowers.
