4” signed Doris Hall enamel on copper plate.
Doris Hall 1907 - 2007
Born in Lakewood, Ohio in 1907, Doris studied painting in Provincetown, MA with noted American artist Charles Hawthorne. She later returned to Ohio where she graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1928. She first began to experiment with enameling in 1941, firing the enamels in a kiln her husband had built in their home. The design of this plate is typical of the work she produced for a small retail shop, named Cat and Drum, that she and her husband established in 1963 when they moved to Stockbridge, MA. She passed away in New York in 2000.
