Slightly different reason for today’s post. Today is #worlddiabetesday 💉
I have had type 1 diabetes for over 6 and a half years now and it still presents its challenges on a daily bases. I am unable to regulate my own blood sugar so rely on injections to survive. In all honesty I have never coped very well with having diabetes; physically I let myself suffer for the first 4 years after my diagnosis not really caring what my sugars were doing to the point where I ended up in the back of an ambulance reassessing my decisions. From then on I worked hard to stay as fit and healthy as possible and so far it’s worked and physically my diabetes now presents very little problems. However as with any illness there is the mental side that often gets forgotten about or left behind and to me is more important. There are days where you feel scared, sick, sad and confused as to what just happened. The constant strain of something that is going on 24/7. You never get a break from it and that’s the hardest part.
Often the simple things of just reaching out for help can seem so far away. If you know of any diabetics today just ask: how are you doing? it will make their day!
So happy #worlddiabetesday to all the fellow diabetics out there
